Privacy Policy — Light Cycles

Last updated: 22 August 2026

Light Cycles LLC ("we") makes the Light Cycles app, which controls Light Cycles LED lighting controllers. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it.

We have tried to keep this short and specific rather than long and vague.

The short version

The app does not require an account, does not ask for your name or email, and does not track you. The only information that leaves your device is what you send us when you contact support — and the app shows you exactly what that includes before you send it.

What the app collects

Nothing at all until you use the Support screen. If you never contact us, nothing leaves your phone.

When you do send a support message, this is everything that is sent — the complete list, not a summary:

Your message

What Example
The text you typed "My zone 2 lights are green instead of orange"
Any photo you choose to attach A picture of your lights or wiring

Photos are optional and never automatic. The app has no access to your camera roll unless you tap "Add a photo" and pick one, and it shows you the picture before it is sent. Photos are resized on your phone before upload, and only images can be sent — not video.

Your photos can be seen by you and by Light Cycles, and by nobody else.

Your setup, so we can help without twenty questions:

What Example Why it helps
Controllers connected 1 - BUFF GLED Which product you have
LED strip type Narrow 5V Wrong setting here makes colours look wrong
Layout poster Whether it is a bike, boat, sign, etc.
Layout sync off Whether effects run across all strips as one
Poster 2D off Which rendering mode is active
LEDs per metre 160 Effects are tuned per density
Zone lengths 225, 193, 146, 146 How long each run is
Effect 0 Which effect you were on
Audio off Whether sound reactivity is on
Motion off Whether motion reactivity is on
Bloom 128 Effect size setting
App version v1.0.0 Which build you are running

You can see this exact list in the app before sending — tap "Your setup is included so we can help faster" on the Support screen.

A random ID for your device

What Example Why
Anonymous identifier k3xq8Zp2... So your conversation has an owner and you can read replies

It is generated by your phone, contains no personal information, and is not connected to your name, email, phone number, Google account, or any advertising ID.

A notification token — only if you turn notifications on, and only used to tell you that support replied.

Alongside those, our system stores the ordinary mechanics of a message thread: when each message was sent, who sent it (you or us), and whether it has been read.

What the app does not collect

  • No name, email address, or phone number. Support is anonymous

unless you choose to tell us who you are in a message.

  • No location. On Android 11 and older, the operating system required

a location permission in order to scan for Bluetooth devices at all; where that applies we request it solely for that purpose and never read your location. On Android 12 and newer the app declares neverForLocation, which tells the system it must not derive location from Bluetooth scanning.

  • No advertising identifiers, and no advertising. The app contains no

ads, no ad SDKs, and no third-party analytics or tracking.

  • No controller hardware addresses. Your controller's Bluetooth MAC

address stays on your device and is never sent to us.

  • No payment information. The app never handles payments.

What stays on your device

Everything else. Your effects, colours, zone layouts, calibration, poster designs, saved configurations, device nicknames and preferences are stored on your phone and are not uploaded.

Communication with your LED controllers happens directly over Bluetooth between your phone and the controller. It does not pass through us or the internet.

Who else is involved

  • Google Firebase stores support conversations and delivers

notifications. Data is held in the United States.

  • Cloudflare runs the small service that triggers a notification when

a message is sent. It handles the notification only, and does not store your messages.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing.

How long we keep it

Support conversations, including any photos, are deleted automatically one year after the last message in them.

They are kept that long so that if you contact us again, we still have the history — which usually means you do not have to explain your setup twice. The clock runs from the most recent message, so an ongoing conversation is never deleted from under you.

You can also ask us to delete yours sooner, at any time.

Deleting your data

It happens on its own. Your conversation, the setup snapshot attached to it, and any photos you sent are all deleted automatically one year after the last message — you do not have to ask, and you do not have to remember.

If you want it gone sooner, email admin@lightcycles.shop and ask. We will delete the whole conversation, its setup snapshot, and its photos.

Because support is anonymous, we may need you to send the request from the app, or tell us something from the conversation, so we can identify which one is yours.

Children

The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Support conversations are restricted so that only you and Light Cycles can read yours — one customer cannot read another's.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app.
